The application based on BBS is not only economical but also feasible, and it is an ideal way of integrating information technology into college English teaching (CET). Under the instruction of active learning and independent study, students are expected to choose the appropriate learning methods based on individual needs and make good use of the teaching resources that the BBS provides to enhance their ability in English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation. This article focuses on key technologies, processes and instructional design of constructing BBS according to related teaching and learning theories. Meanwhile, we attempt to discuss the instructional effect and the factors that affect the instructional effect of college English teaching based on BBS by collecting and analyzing the data of organized teaching experiment.The first chapter presents the background to this research and a survey of the reform of CET in China, where the traditional teaching model is giving way to a new one based on modern information technology. Great use of BBS, a long distance interactional system, can be made for the benefit of CET. A survey of famous Chinese and international BBS (catering to English learners) reveals the fact that the application of this system in English learning and CET is far from being satisfactory due to the deficiency in the combination of theory and practice. The main point of full application of BBS to CET is presented along with the aim, contents, methods and implications of the current research.The second chapter is devoted to the theory and techniques of the employment of BBS in teaching. The characteristics of BBS, its functions in CET, relevant education theories and learning strategies based on BBS are elaborated.The third chapter is allocated to the development of a BBS catering to CET. The function provided by BBS, programming environment and key technologies in programming are dwelled on.The fourth chapter highlights the designing of CET based on BBS, the good effects of which are confirmed by an analysis of the data of the experimental class. The practical application of BBS in CET is also expounded.The fifth chapter includes in it the conclusions, new findings, and prospects of the present research.
