On The Agriculture Development Of Henan In Northern Song Dynasty

Henan is situated at the central China, where is the middle and lower reaches of Yellow River which is one important place of origin of Chinese nation civilizations. From three Generations until Tang Dynasty & Song Dynasty, Henan is always the central area of Chinese traditional economy. However since the last years of Northern Song Dynasty, the status of Henan in Chinese economic history has changed obviously. From the entire Northern Song Dynasty, Henan area agricultural development still had relative superiority in Chinese economic history then.This article altogether is divided into three parts, the first part is mainly about Henan 's agriculture foundation in Northern Song Dynasty time, namely geography and social environment of Henan area in Northern Song Dynasty, which include Henan's range and its historical condition of Henan economy development before Northern Song Dynasty. The second part mainly comprehensively proves and analyzes each aspect of its agricultural development in Northern Song Dynasty time. Firstly, this article talks about its population fluctuation in Northern Song Dynasty by which it can reflect the essential factor of labor force in economy development;Secondly, a side of its agricultural development is talked about from its land cultivation and its quantity;Thirdly, its agricultural development is reflected by the construction of hydraulic engineering in Northern Song Dynasty;Fourthly, the grain production including grain yield, payment of taxes quantity and so on proves its agricultural development and its change in Northern Song Dynasty in Henan area;The last but not the least, this part also has analyzed agriculture diversification management and the commercialization of its agricultural product in this area in Northern Song Dynasty. The third part of this article has mainly provided the multiple reasons by which in Northern Song Dynasty the essential features of its agricultural development have formed.We think that at that time the reasons of Henan economy development and its characteristics have many kinds of factors, among which sufficient human resources, developed transportation and preferential policy and so on play a decisive role.
