The Study On Jiang Ting-fu's Historical Thoughts

Jiang Ting-fu is a diversified person. His early years was study in USA, returning to China after obtaining Ph.D. degree, teaching in Tsinghua University and Nankai University, making use of file by new idea, neatening national history, founding the new structure and form of the Chinese modern history studies. As a intellectual, he cooperated with Hu Shi, Ding Wen-jiang and other intellectuals established "Independent Critique", which drew on excellent people to concern, think and discuss national affairs. He lived in a turbulence age, the civil war, and foreign invasion were subject matters at that time. His observation to situation disregarded to superficial condition. He insisted the dispassion attitude of a historiography, taking history experience as standard to go to analyze, explain world. This dispassion voice is valuable in a turbulence age of modern China. Because the ruling authorities valued his political commentary opinion, Jiang Ting-fu left academic circles and got into Nanjing Nationalist Government at 41 years old, working for the government became the main work of his life, until passed away for cancer in New York 1965.As a historian, Jiang Ting-fu's Historical thoughts accepted the dual influence of western historiography and the traditional historiography of China, making his own special historiography thought and historiography method, leaving a deeply impression on the development of modern new historiography. His magnum opus: "Chinese Modern History", which was the focus of people's attention, not only "an elaborate academic articled of the time", but also the pioneer of the new modern history. It still has academic value now.
