Analysis On The English Version Of The Family From The Aesthetic Perspective

Among the humanities, aesthetics has a perfect integration with translation. Aesthetics has been long connected to translation both in theory and practice. Aesthetics is the theoretical study of beauty and taste constituting a branch of philosophy. Literature, a part of arts, contains unique aesthetic nature. Accordingly, it determines that aesthetics is an essential approach to assessing the values of both literature and its translations. The writer in this thesis thinks that it is meaningful to apply aesthetic theory to the literary translation, to its analysis, because it is so helpful for the practice of literary translation.There are three main parts discussed in this thesis. In the first part, the writer reviews the source of aesthetics and, the literary translation theory both abroad and home, then the writer realizes that the criteria of literary translation are inseparable to the aesthetic theory. In the second part, the writer mainly introduces the necessity of aesthetics in literary translation. According to the differences between culture and language, there exist translatability and untranslatability for the aesthetic object to meet the requirement of literary translation criteria, as well as the beauty in form and content. Translation is the art of kinds of choices. The translator is the aesthetic subject of the original text and the translator should reproduce the aesthetic value of the original in another language through exploring the aesthetic features in the original text. From the aspect of the text, literary translation and aesthetic theory can't separate from each other. In the light of Nida's equivalence theory, the writer explains the aesthetic equivalence and highlights the readers' acceptability.In the third part, it takes the English version of The Family for example, and applies the aesthetic theory to its analysis, to find out the aesthetic properties and aesthetic translation criteria.
