Scientific and technological information transmission is the main objective of EST translation. Nevertheless, it is not simply a bilingual transfer of terminology but a process of delicate diction and sentence processing. A Chinese rendering with harmonious tune, balanced form, natural expression and high logicality will undoubtedly increase the readability and arouse readers' interest, thus better serving the function of convincing knowledge.Translation aesthetics is an interdisciplinary subject which combines aesthetic theories and translation study, and promotes aesthetic consideration and effect in translation process, including scientific translation. However it has been focusing on the artistic and literary genres, such as poem and novel. Few touch the aesthetic study of practical writing translation like scientific translation. The present thesis adopts empirical descriptive research method. Translation aesthetic theories of Liu Miqing as theoretical framework, it studies EST translation from aesthetic perspective. This thesis holds that EST translation is an aesthetic activity, since it is a constant process of comprehension, transfer, selection and optimization, which embodies the aesthetic consciousness and representation, noticed or unnoticed. In light of translation aesthetic theory and according to informative function and characteristics of EST translation, the author attempts to propose and analyse three aesthetic criteria for EST translation--expressiveness, acceptability and logicality. Expressiveness ensures the accurate, professional and complete conveyance of source language information. Acceptability requires professional normative style, expression habit and aesthetic preference. Logicality realizes aesthetic representation of EST translation without losing its scientific rigor of expression. Then, guided with a TL-oriented representation method proposed by Liu Miqing, this thesis exemplifies aesthetic representation activity in EST translation under the three criteria from three levels of words, sentences and discourse. The present study has certain significance both theoretically and practically. It extends the range of scientific translation study and translation aesthetic theory, contributes to improve the quality of EST translation and to some extent inspires scientific translators. Yet, it is still a new way to study EST translation from translation aesthetic perspective, and this study is just a try. Ultimately, author hopes this study will shed light on EST translation study and practice, and realize an efficient scientific translation, combining knowledge transmission and aesthetic enjoyment for target readers.
