Questions discussed in this thesis belong to the category of lexical semantics. In this research, combining the qualitative analysis and the quantitative analysis, regarding the verbal words of The List of 3000 Everyday Words in PuTongHua《普通话三千常用词表》,the description of the verbs is based on the Modern Chinese Dictionary. Probing deeply into the verb morpheme, we put forward a viewpoint that"the Meaning of the Verb is Not Self-Sufficient". In the process of proving this viewpoint, we tries to construct the mode of verb definition, from macroscopic to microscopic. Finally, the theory is been widely employed in different linguistic study areas such as words meaning change, improve the explanations of words in dictionaries and contrastive analysis of the synonym. We try to make this theory form its own theoretical system. We put forward the concept of"concerning role"implicated in verb semantics, and based upon which, this article illustrates"the meaning of the verb is not self-sufficient": a verb meaning is a process of sense, because many complex situation participants ----the concerning roles reflected in it. The verb has to rely on the certain concerning roles to be able to form the integrity semantic description. Moreover, this kind of dependent relations are unidirectional. So it needs a supplement to compose an unity, which can...
