This thesis makes a detailed exposition of John Fiske's mass cultural theory, a famous theoretician of mass culture and one of the representative figures of the school of Cultural Studies since 1980's. He got his reputation in the academic circle by his works (such as Reading popular culture Understanding popular culture TV culture Reading TV) and many articles on people culture . The main contribution he made is to deny Frankfort school's thoughts and he try to bring forward an optimistic people culture. The essence of his theory is to stress the audience's resistance ability.Fiske also taken a serious thinking to some basic issues. Such as mass mass culture the text of mass culture . the cultural studies.He set forth financial economy and cultural economy. They can interact each other. He realized audience'ability through analysis to TV text. He used"bardic function"to explain the cultural function of TV.he came the conclusion that the meaning and pleasure were created by active audience through the analysis to TV culture and the economy of TV culture.
