Journalistic language, as a fairly effective way of information transmitting, is exerting a great effect on our everyday life and people's style of writing and therefore is worthy of our constant attention. This study aims to render a contextual exploration of the translation of journalistic language in a comprehensive, systematic and representative manner. Context theory here serves as a governing principle in the analysis of the important role both linguistic and cultural context play in adjusting and determining meaning in the translation of journalistic language. And a readership-oriented approach is suggested to be the core approach to the translation of journalistic writings in accordance with the nature of journalism, namely a one-way linguistic communication.This study consists of four parts: the first part is the introduction which clarifies the framework of the whole exploration; the second part renders a brief view of the nature of news and its social functions in an information era; part three is the main body of the study and focuses on a contextual exploration in the translation of journalistic language in a systematic and representative manner and two major types of context are here included, i.e. the linguistic context and the non-linguistic context, mainly a cultural context in the present study; the fourth part is a conclusion of the whole study.The main features of this study are as follows:1) Translation of journalistic language, which answers well the present global trend, is what this study focuses on; 2) The whole exploration is carried out from a unique and untraditional angel with a contextual theory serving as its academic basis; 3) Comparative analysis and stylish exemplification stand out in a detailed examination of the academic ground running through this study.The main conclusions that have been reached in this thesis are: 1) The Context in a language, both the linguistic context and the cultural context, plays an indispensable role in the translation of journalistic writings so that no enough attention could be ever attached to the effect contextual factors should exert on the transference of messages in a translated journalistic work; 2) A readership-oriented approach is proved to be the core approach to...
