Context theory not only throws light on study of translation practice, but also contributes to the development of translation theories. Many western linguists and translators have paid much attention to this theory and applied it to many fields. However, in China, the study of context theory in translation practice is just at a preliminary stage, let alone the study of translation teaching on the basis of the context theory. This paper purports to explore the context theory and then apply it to the study of translation teaching.The purpose of this thesis is, as the title indicates, to analyze the non-linguistic contextual factors in terms of linguistic theory, to stimulate and develop foreign-language learners' potential ability in bilingual communication. The whole thesis consists of six parts.The first part presents a brief introduction to the significance of context theory, and then states the writing purpose of this thesis.The primary issue in the study of language is the measurement of context theory. Linguists maintain that the contextual elements are closely related to language study. Translators believe that context is the key factor to affect translation. Thus, as a major resource of translation quality, context theory is also, to some extent, related to language, culture and translation. It will be helpful for English teaching and learning, and for the practice of translation in China. It is necessary to make clear about the relationship between context theory, language and translation. However, the work has rarely been done so far. So in this paper, the author attempts to make a tentative study of this topic.The second part is about literature reviews of context and context theory purposed by theorists of translation.Translation is a way to exchange information from the source language...
