Tao Shu was a significant able person who had sufficient practical thought and transcendent performance in the reform area between the duration of Jia-Dao in the Qing period, and he also was an important person who had a significant effect during the progress of China's transformation from the archaic to modern. He believed Actual Useful Learning, and advocated that putting theories into practice. He gained status with his practical thought and efforts in the Jia-Dao period. He was incorruptible, working hard and paid much attention on human beings'life situation. The reform which was masterminded by Tao Shu was significant and important for the development of Chinese modern history.The times, Jia-Dao period, when Tao Shu was living was between the two academic hot periods, Kang-Yong-Qian period and Xian-Tong Period. And he had no academic article survived, at the same time, his achievements was covered by Lin Zexu and Wei Yuan. Because all of these, there were few academic research focus on Tao Shu, and most of these researches concentrated on discussion of his performance and achievement. Although his textual criticism of the ancient classics and literary achievement was referred, the research about his practical thoughts was still insufficient. Most of these researches mainly describe the truth only, and rarely touched the root and characters of his practical theory. Therefore, the researches about Tao Shu are needed to be deeper. This dissertation is going to discuss Tao Shu's practical thought from its root and theoretical support, and also open an argumentation for academicians and scholars.The main body starts from the second section of this thesis. Firstly I will analyze the root of Tao Shu's practical thought for how it was generated from five areas:home education, traditional Confucian Benevolent Learning, HuXiang culture, Actual Useful Learning during the Ming and Qing period, Interact on persons each other that have practical thought in the epoch of Jia-Dao, which influenced Tao Shu, and how he assimilated and abandoned these ideologies. Secondly, linking with Tao Shu's political and academic ideologies, I will discuss his practical thought's theoretical supports, contents and characters. In other words, separately discuss his ideality of benevolence, academic ideality of giving up fake and advocating truth and the target of put theories into practice.
