The Application Of Corpus In Lexicography Of Chinese Measure Words

Corpus has drawn more and more attention in the field of modern lexicography. This paper mainly discusses how corpus is utilized in dealing with problems in making A Dictionary of Measure Words in HSK. Based on the existing productions in lexicography, we use corpus to do statistical analysis, the result of which is to correct or complement the deficiencies in order to make the Dictionary more scientific and more practical.The application of corpus is mainly in four aspects: 1.Confining the scope of words combined with available experiences of lexicography; 2. Selecting and dividing the meanings of measure words based on the related statistical results of corpus with reference to the existing conditions in dictionaries of measure words. 3. Establishing the principles of tagging grammatical information about measure words and providing examples using related statistics in corpus. 4. Discussing the using frequency of measure words.According to this paper, we can realize that corpus can be used more in a scientific way in lexicography. The new discoveries and angles obtained from corpus will provide a spacious view for lexicography and facilitate language teaching and studies.
