Textbook as the represent of overall plan and evidence of class teaching and test plays an important role in the four steps of whole teaching process of Chinese to foreigners. Textbook is also the evidence that the students and teachers should abide by, which represents the two fundamental sides of teaching Chinese to foreigners: what to teach and how to teach. Therefore, it is absolutely significant to study the compiling of the textbooks of teaching Chinese to foreigners. A Course in Chinese (《汉语教程》)as one of the most influential textbooks is the latest integrated textbook for primary stage of Chinese learning, compiled by Beijng Language and Culture University. New Practical Chinese Reader (《新实用汉语课本》) is the latest primary integrated textbook strongly recommended by NOTCFL(国家汉办), which is aimed mainly to overseas (especially for those in the Northern America regions). When facing the two sets of textbooks, which are utilized mainly at home and abroad respectively, we can't helping but pondering what are the differences between them in terms of compiling theory, contents of texts, new words, grammatical points, exercises, etc., and what kind of experiences and lessons we can draw from them. Nevertheless, so far, the thesis author hasn't found any articles concerning about the comparative study of the two. However, it can't deny that the study on them is significant for us to compile the ideal textbooks. This thesis focuses on the comparative and exhaustive study of the various aspects concerning compiling theory, contents of texts, new words, etc., in these two textbooks respectively.
