Teaching material in the whole process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, occupying the very important position, it is the basis of class design, and it is the tool which helps students learning. So it is very important and meaningful to study Chinese textbooks.This article will compare both the Chinese teaching material "modern Chinese advanced tutorial", "new practical Chinese textbook 5" and two English textbooks:" new concept English 4 "," Longman contemporary English tutorial 5 ",I hope that the research can push the development of Chinese textbooks.First, the pertinence aspects in the text, "new concept English 4" is more targeted than "modern Chinese advanced tutorial"; then in practical aspect, the language in "modern Chinese advanced tutorial" is outdated, its practicability and authenticity all not as good as" Longman contemporary English tutorial 5"; Interesting aspect, "Longman contemporary English tutorial "is much more interesting than "new practical Chinese textbooks 5", so Chinese textbooks still need work hard on the text content and format.meanwhile, we can also insert some more pictures in our text book.New words of textbooks, the arrangement of new words in "modern Chinese advanced tutorial" and "new practical Chinese textbook 5" is not good for students to remember new words. and the words and morphemes, there are only few exercise about morpheme in "modern Chinese advanced tutorial", and although "new practical Chinese textbook 5 "has morpheme teaching part in words list, but it is too small to be arouse student's attention,so it is unable to improve students' vocabulary. While this respect in English teaching materials is better, they also adopted some pictures to make definition, which is more vivid and clear.About the grammar part, "modern Chinese advanced tutorial" and "new practical Chinese textbook 5" are using the traditional way-teach fist then do exercise. But in "new concept English 4"and"Longman contemporary English tutorial 5",first exercise and then teach then more exercise. And on the point of grammar arrangement, "modern Chinese advanced tutorial" has gathered all difficulties of grammar together which will take disadvantages to students. So Chinese teaching material should learn from English teaching material about the arrangement of grammar; "new concept English 4 "did a good job on the explaining of grammar, it compared old express way with new express way to show the grammar rules. "Longman contemporary English tutorial 5"pay attention to the practical of grammar which is also worth reference.About effectiveness and diversity in exercise, "new concept English 4" and "Longman contemporary English tutorial 5" is much more scientific and productive and interesting.In conclusion, as Contemporary textbooks, we need to study our own textbook hard and also need to learn from Excellent English textbook.
