The Study Of The Historical TV Drama Of China And Its Audience

With approach of culture studies, the thesis studied historical TV dramas which reach the zenith and are popular with majority of Chinese people in 1990s.In my studies, first I take an examination on historical TV drama by means of being aware of the fashion and the current of China. By taking a study on some specific cases, I find that there is common mode of production in historical TV dramas made by batched-production.Beyond such studies, I can research the audience of historical TV dramas with the symbol theories and psychology theories of mass communication.My studies show that there are amount of values in historical TV drama. Traditional values co-exist with the contemporary ones. They fight each other and join together under given conditions to acquire identity.Because the politics-economy reform took place in China in 1980s and popular culture carry everything with one in entire globe, the historical TV drama represents a certain character as a product of culture industry. There are two types of historical TV drama, historical romance and historical huaben. They both have their loyal audience.By study of those different groups of audience, I believe that TV dramas have strong functions in mass communication. It plays an important role in culture inheritance, social consciousness identity and experience promotion.
