The development of science, technology and social economy and culture establish the material foundation of the age, the abundance on materials make people pay more attention to their emotional needs; Along with the rise of new design philosophy, product design has been gradually diversified, and emotional design, which is based on people's deep emotional needs and spiritual demands, has become a kind of new design thought. Therefore, how to comprehend basic theories of emotional design and make use of such design thought in modern product design, have become the problems to resolve urgently of product design nowadays.This thesis selects commodity, which is a special kind of product closely linked to people's daily life, as a carrier for conducting the thought of emotional design. It is hoped that the concrete methods of commodity emotional design can be explored through the analysis of emotional design theories and the discussion of outstanding examples in abroad, so that the phenomenon of apathy and monotony in local commodity emotional design can be improved. It will be a reference and guidance for commodity enterprises. The research of this thesis will be a new experiment in the field of local commodity emotional design, contribute to the expansion of emotional design in our country, and is exactly the innovation of this thesis also.This thesis discusses the inevitability of emotional design from the aspects of philosophy, science and technology, economic culture and psychology, narrates its development from the two aspects of commercial application and literature discussion. It makes explanations of emotion, emotional product and emotional design, expatiates on relationships between emotional design and esthetics, humanity, individuation and fashion, and a deep analysis in emotional design layers division advanced by Professor Norman; then concludes the basic representing types of commodity emotional design by analyzing a series of classic cases, and finally advances general methods from the angle of configuration to guide local commodity design.The results of this research have a certain meaning of real guidance for local commodity emotional design, a homologous reference value for other kinds of product conducting the thought of emotional design, and provide the possibility for follow-up research.
