With the trend of economic globalization and China's access to WTO, more communication and cooperation have been carried on between China and other countries in the world in such fields as politics, culture, economy and law. As the communication grows in respect of legal business between China and foreign countries, we need borrow experience from our peers and technique in overseas countries. On the other hand, we also need to introduce our legislation development to the world so as to bring China in line with the international customary practices and further strengthen democracy and the legal system and also perfect our socialist market economy. Therefore, the translation of legal document should be given priority.The promulgation of the Labor Law of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter refers to as "the Law") in 1994 symbolizes the radical change in China's labor system and labor law. It, as a milestone, has laid down the foundation for the labor system in the socialist market economy in connection to the international customary practices. No doubt, the translated version of the Law would be a key point.In light of the professional knowledge of law and translation theories and practices, the author has, by comparing the translated version with the legislative language of British's Employment Law, made some comments and analyses on the English translation of the Law. While suggesting corrections in relation to cross-cultural legal translation, the author endeavored to find some regularity in the translation of legislative language of our country as well.During the thesis writing, the author acquired understanding of the legislation background and relative knowledge of the Law.
