Complements of direction is one of the emphasis grammars which notably reflects the characteristics of Chinese and there is hardly any other languages have the similar phenomenon. In Chinese some sentences contain the complements of direction, but in other languages they usually use other expressions such as two sentences or add prep after the verb. For the reason that the corresponding complements of direction form between Chinese and other languages is complex, and the semantics orientation in different sentences is not completely the same, but always have explains, so it's hard for foreign students to study. Because all kinds of factors such as the textbook, the teaching, the learner, there may be many errors in the course of their studying. And the errors may different according to their mother tongue. This study based on the interlanguage theory, contractive analysis and the error analysis and discusses the difficult point, the error type and the reasons causing error. I have a questionnaire and collected the students'compositions and then I have four conclusions:1. The errors in English students studying complements of direction are divided into three kinds: the error in sentence structure; the error in sentence meaning; the error of avoidance.2. The difficulty of mastering the structure is the place of the objective, especially the place of placing objective.3. The difficulty of mastering the meaning is the using of relative meaning.4. Mother tongue and the over generalization of Chinese have the most great effect on the studying complements of direction.Basing on the information mentioned above, some advices on teaching were also presented in this study.
