Complements of direction is one of the emphases in Chinese grammar. It is one of the difficulties in foreign students studying Chinese. And the corresponding form between Chinese and other languages is complex. Because of all kinds of factors such as the textbook the teaching and the learner , there are numerous errors in the course of English students' studying complements of direction. I have a research on English students studying complements of direction by questionnaire and compositions collected. The errors in English students studying complements of direction is divided into two kinds: the error in sentence structure; the error in sentence meaning. Structure error is divided into two kinds: the place error of the simple complements of direction and the objective; the place error of the compound complement of direction and the objective. Meaning error is divided into six kinds: missing complements of direction; missing verb; the compound using of simple complements of direction and compound complements of direction; the misusing of complements of direction; match error; the error of direction.I analyzed the reason of the errors, using contrastive analysis and error analysis theory and interlanguage theory. At last, I had three conclusions: the difficulty of mastering the structure is the place of objective, especially the place of placing objective; the difficulty of mastering the meaning is the using of relative meaning; mother tongue has the most great effect on the studying complements of directionThen I had a discuss on the reasons causing error.Basing on the information mentioned above, some advice on teaching were also presented in this study.
