Plague of locusts is one of 3 agricultural nature calamities. " Country is taking people as the most important things, people regard food as their prime want" , Therefore plague of locusts got the solicitude of the rulers of past dynasties. The rulers of Tang Dynasty also paid attention to relatively plague of locusts. So far, many articles of academic circles wrote the characteristics of plague of locusts of Tang Dynasty in general from nation-wide angle, but the solicitude for the heavy disaster area is not enough. This paper studies Plague of locusts of Tang dynasty including social background at that time, the knowledge of people for plague of locusts, reasons of calamity, characteristic of plague of Tang dynasty, government assistance and so on.This paper divides into 5 chapters, the first chapter is the space-time distribution of plague of locusts. Especially it includes characteristics and reasons of easy occurringabout the heavy disaster area of Tang Dynasty-------the region of Yellow River of middleand lower reaches. Chapter 2 is mainly for the knowledge of plague of locusts. It includes thoughts on the influence that receives "Tian Qian theory", and objective knowledge and the wrong knowledge. Chapter 3 introduces reporting calamity, preventing and controlling calamity. It analyses the specially appointed officials, and measure of catching locusts. Chapter 4 has investigated into the relieve development of plague of locusts of Tang Dynasty. It stands for storing up surplus grain in good year, providing material relieve, spirit soothes, and borrowing to grow grain after disaster, dispensing with rent tax, sending officials again etc. these measures explains that the relief system of Tang Dynasty calamity was already pretty perfected. Chapter 5, have analysed the relation of plague of locusts and society situation. Plague of locusts influenced the daily life of emperor and the reputation of officials. In addition, the positive behavior of officials could also decrease the destructive power of plague of locusts.
