The Study On Chinese Language Teaching Through The Improvement Of Singapore Chinese Language Examination Formats

In this paper, the properties of old and new Chinese language test formats in Singapore were studied by contrast analysis, the stand of Chinese reading teaching in Singapore was researched, as well as approached Chinese reading teaching methods from different angles.The contents of the old Chinese language test format were comprehensive, but some components were just focused on study language knowledge and do not point to language skills test. Since 2006, Singapore MOE (Ministry of Education) has been using a new Chinese language test format in examinations. This format not only exercises the language knowledge of students but also enable them to put their language techniques, communication abilities and reading skills into practice.According to the new Chinese language test format, through studying language knowledge, Chinese language teaching is able to improve students' reading skills. The improvement of students' reading skills has already become the focal point of Chinese language teaching, reading teaching is also now an important part of the Chinese language syllabus.Chinese reading teaching should follow up on these principles: students playing the lead, the unity of theory and practice, as well as the development of reading skills. According to these principles, strategies of Chinese reading teaching are: Emphasis must be placed on reading teaching; encouraging independent reading, fostering students' reading skills; making full use of the latest teaching techniques, with stress placed on text. We should apply students' understanding of principles to teachers' direct actions; teaching students in accordance to their aptitudes, chronologically and advancing step by step; attaching importance to promote students' reading ability and strengthen training methods.
