Wordsworth is the pioneer of English Romantic Movement and the leader of Lake Poets. The literature movement he led initiated the transformation of western literature from classicism to modernism. He is universally admitted as a great nature poet, and Chinese critics used to associate Wordsworth's poems with traditional Chinese nature poems. Since last decade, Western ecologists have generally regarded Wordsworth as the first romantic poet who had ecological consciousness in western history of literature.In this thesis, the approach of eco-criticism is used to elaborate Wordsworth's ecological thoughts, his innovation of tradition and ecological thoughts in his works. The theory of Heidegger's poetic dwelling is applied to analyze Wordsworth's solicitude for human existence, and his effort to realize the ideal of a harmonious human-nature relationship.After a brief introduction of Wordsworth, the thesis elaborates Wordsworth's connection with the tradition of environment writing. In nature writing, the idyll and romantic poets'poems, there was the tradition of loving nature and respecting nature. Wordsworth followed the good tradition and formed the unique nature outlook. His proposal to make the Lake District a sort of national property propelled the establishment of national parks. His understanding of the concept and value of nature is profound and predictive. Wordsworth's love of nature led to his love of mankind. His solicitude for human existence agrees with Heidegger's dwelling theory. His views on the child, on imagination, on reason and feelings are beneficial to amend the alienated human nature.This thesis is of theoretical and practical significance in the following aspects: Wordsworth had a profound understanding of nature's concept and value. His proposal to build a harmonious human-nature relationship is of tremendous significance to alleviate the worsening human-nature relationship and the alienated human nature. The ideal human existence that Wordsworth yearned for is similar to poetic dwelling and free dwelling proposed by Heidegger. It is valuable to study Wordsworth's nature outlook with the approaches of eco-criticism and Heideggerian eco-philosophy.
