| The entertainment news, with its lively and relaxing style and its prompt and vivid account, has been welcomed by millions of readers and thus has become an indispensable part of readers' news reading list. Many newspapers bear entertainment edition, hence more and more entertainment news reporting is released. Compared with other sub-varieties of journalistic English, entertainment news reporting has not enjoyed its due attention. No works concerning a systematic and comprehensive analysis of its stylistic features could be found in the linguistic circle.The present thesis is an attempt to analyze the stylistic features of entertainment news reporting systematically and comprehensively on the basis of the theory of modern stylistics. The entertainment news are all collected from an English quality paper—21st century(2005) and a corpus ENR of 100,260 words is established. The other four corpora LOBA, BROWNA, MEE and NEC are employed to find similarities as well as the differences of their styles. Quantitative results are obtained through the help of computer programs and modern statistical methods. Ultimately, it is concluded that the ENR has its distinctive stylistic features on graphology, lexis, syntax and discourse levels.It is hoped that the present investigation of the stylistic features of journalistic English for entertainment news will shed light on the teaching of writing and appreciation of the entertainment news reporting.
