In modern society, with the rapid development of science and technology, we need to introduce advanced science and technology from foreign countries, as two major branches of it, optics and electronics play important role in modern society, thus mastering the essence of them is of great significance. The most important means to fulfill this is the translation of the documents of optics and electronics into Chinese, if we have a precisely translated document, we can fully make use of the advanced technology and then promote the economic development of China, therefore, the proper technique for the translation of them is very important. Nowadays, most of the techniques mentioned in translation textbooks are about sentence structure transfer, techniques like that may benefit the beginners, yet they only concern for the external structure, not the internal content, hence they will be of little help to the translators after they went deeper into the translation practice. What's more, if confined to those techniques, translators will easily get a rigid and incoherent translation.A lot of translating experiences show that with the help of some linguistic theories, we can get a target text which can better express the intention of the original text. Therefore, this paper tries to apply relevance theory and Trimble's discourse theory in the translation of optics and electronics documents, aiming to break the shackle of the traditional translation theory and get a clearer and more coherent target text. There are several translation units such as phoneme, morpheme , word, sentence , discourse, etc, which can be put emphasis on in the process of...
