The Application Of Functionalist Translation Theory In Science And Technology English Translation Based On English-Chinese Translation Practice On Welding Technology Documents

With fast and deep development of reform and opening policy of China,technology has become the more important element of economy construction. Andall kinds of latest technology from other countries has been introduced into China,as following, technology English translation has become more and more important.Because technology English has its own style, technology English translation maydiffer in processes and techniques from other English translation. Accuracy andseriousness are considered as the typical characteristics of technology Englishtranslation. This demands more skills and knowledge of English translator. TheEnglish translator should be not only good at languages of English and Chinese,but also should learn more knowledge about technology.This paper in the form of translation practice report tells the analysis ofEnglish-Chinese translation procedure for welding technology documents. Thetranslation work in this paper is guided by functionalist translation theory. Thetranslation mainly focus on translation analysis on words and sentences in weldingdocuments. This translation analysis is conducted to get general translationprocesses and techniques for science technology English translation. Functionalisttranslation theory has already been applied in science technology Englishtranslation. And some good translation theory and techniques have been alreadydeveloped by the research of this application. This paper provides evidence for thisapplication. At the same time the developed theory and techniques are applied inthe subject of welding technology English translation in this paper. So this paperprovides some experience for welding technology English translation personnel.However, the translation quality of welding technology document which istranslated by the writer of this paper could be improved to a higher level. That isbecause the writer of this paper is not perfect in welding technology and translationknowledge. The writer of this paper hopes to improve his translation skill level bythe research of translation practice in this paper.
