In 2001, "full-time compulsory education art course standard (experimental draft)"("art course standard" for short) proposed: "The relationship between tradition and modern should be well handled when choosing the content for the textbooks. They should cover excellent traditional culture and the idea and methodology of modern arts should also be included, to widen the students' horizon and thinking way. In new "art course standard", the connotation and denotation of arts are expanded, which is more demanding for teachers. Besides appreciating the phenomenon of modern art and learning the methodology, they should guide the students to appreciate and assess modern arts. However, the teaching practice in primary and middle schools at present, the teachers still emphasize introducing ancient classical works. There are little introduction to contemporary art and exhibition.It could be found that the setting of art education course in high normal colleges was one of the causes. There is the "History of Chinese and Foreign Arts" in those colleges, but most of them have no course on contemporary art appreciation. That course stops at discussing contemporary history so there is "blind point" in contemporary arts' appreciation. It results in "wordless" when confronting modern arts for the teachers who graduate from the colleges. They themselves couldn't appreciate contemporary arts and are not able to guide their students too.This current research focuses on this issue, proposing concrete ways for course setting and teaching method by analyzing the issue that "contemporary art appreciation" course should be included in arts major of high normal colleges. The research goal is to provide answers to the above mentioned problems.The hypothesis is that"contemporary arts"course will has its influence in the following two aspects:First, widening the art education majors' horizon and improve their ability in appreciating and criticizing contemporary arts.Second, cultivating art education majors to apply the contemporary works resource and improve their ability in teaching.The course will help the art education majors to improve their ability in art appreciation, so that they can apply or explore contemporary art resource into teaching after graduation, guiding their students to appreciate contemporary arts and have correct ways to make comments on contemporary arts.
