As the national education policy changes, secondary normal schools of art teachingfocus gradually changed from the cultivation of professional art teachers to improvethe aesthetic quality of all of the Normal students, from a professional art educationinto the public art education. Art appreciation course in public art education plays avery important position. Due to the realities faced by the Secondary Teacher,secondary normal schools in terms of capital investment or the teachers’ teachingphilosophy is lagging behind, resulting in the lack of appreciation course hardware, asingle teaching method, students are not interested in appreciation course .The coursebecomes boring and tedious curricula. Therefore, under existing conditions, how tocultivate the interest of the students’ appreciation course, mobilize the enthusiasm ofthe students has become a pressing problem. The well-known educators, Tolstoy oncesaid: "successful education is not mandatory, but rather to stimulate the enthusiasm ofthe students. It is important for the students to improve the interesting of the artappreciation. With the analysis of the current situation, the aim of this paper is tostudy how the teachers who work at the secondary normal school try to improve thestudents’interests for art appreciation class. And there are four parts of it.The first part is about the present situation investigation of the art appreciationteaching. It first shows the purpose of the survey. I mainly have the investigation onthe teachers and students, and try to find out the difference between professionalteachers and non- professional teachers. It is finally concluded that there are threepoints of the present art appreciation classroom teaching. That is: attaching littleweight to the art class, the low discipline position, and the lack of enthusiasm and asingle method of art teachers in the teaching.The second part is based on the analysis about the status of the art appreciationclass and it try to find out the factors of interests in learning. The first factor is on theschool itself. The second one is about the teachers themselves. And the last factor is from the students who are short of the basic knowledge of the art appreciation, havethe different learning strategies and the attitude.The third part is to study the practice and exploration on how to cultivate thestudents’interests with the application of constructivism theory. It first introduces theconstructivism theory and the revelation it brings. Then it is the introduction about theapplication of the constructivist teaching method in the present art appreciation class,including the application of the frame-type teaching method, anchored teachingmethod, and the random access teaching method. At last, it gives the summary onthe practice effect of the constructivism education method and the related suggestions.
