The Japanese modern graphics design follows the Second World War, and it developed fast since 1950s.For the reason of history, the relations between Post-War Japan and The West are very intimate, therefore, all Japanese fields including Politics, Economics, and Art had been following the West, so had the Japanese modern graphics design, which also had been affected by the Western Modern Fine Art Schools. Like the Japanese art, which had learned all from the Western Modern Fine Art, the mode of Japanese modern graphics design was from imitating to creativity. Until 1980s, Japanese designers had found out a way that developed from imitating to creativity and merges itself with the 20th century's designing trends of the west. In this way, can they constitute value system of the Japanese modern graphics.Kazumasa Nagai, one of the explores, born after the Second World War, is among the best designers in Japanese as well as Tanaka. Kazumasa Nagai has many design works, among which the famous ones are posters, whose themes are "life" and "I'm here", which represented the characters of Japanese ornamented art and modernism, and had great effects in Japanese graphics design. Through the study of the themes of the posters and their form languages, the paper tries to analyze some factors that affected Kazumasa Nagai, including the West constructivism and the Japanese traditional art. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the method used in his posters, to draw lessons from the west modern art and to create posters featuring Chinese culture.This paper consists of the following 4 parts.The first part is the introduction, which analyzes the history and the characters of Japanese graphics design in the time that Kazumasa Nagai lived, and sums up the characters of poster works in Kazumasa Nagai's different stages.The second part is one of the stresses. Through the study of Kazumasa Nagai's different stage posters, the chapter brings forward some creative concepts, such as "superposition", "connection" and "symbiosis", and so on. Through the analysis of ornament style of Kazumasa Nagai's poster works, relations between the blank and space of Kazumasa Nagai's works. The paper thinks the theme of Kazumasa Nagai's poster works is always "life", no matter his early works or latter ones. His latter works are more excellent, which came back to Japanese art with the style of the East Art and Zen.The third chapter discusses the effects of the West modern art that brought to Kazumasa Nagai, which had been embodied in the form, graphics of the poster. The West modern arts have many categories, including some genres, among which "Bauhaus" had important effects on Kazumasa Nagai. Bauhaus design school, constructivism and superrealism can been found in Kazumasa Nagai's poster, such as the geometry construction style in Kazumasa Nagai's early posters and the geometry construct of the constructivism, the inconceivability and the grotesquery of superrealism of Kazumasa Nagai's latter posters. In conclusion, the effects on Nagai's poster, which had been brought by the West modern art, is a result of Japanese designers incepting the foreign civilization.The fourth part mainly studies the effects of the East art on the poster of Kazumasa Nagai, which is reflected on the characteristic on the ornament, the graphics plan and the composition of a picture. The paper demonstrates characters of the Japanese tradition art, folk craft, and the ideas of "deformity" and "whole" in Japanese Zen culture.At last, the writer sums up the developing style of Nagai's posters in different times, and considers that changes of Nagai's poster style from geometry construct to Japanese tradition art are the result of circumstance of Japanese modern graphic design, that is to say, a result of ingesting and succeeding of the foreign civilization. His works succeeded the Japanese cultural heritage, and created the posters with Japanese national art style.
