Public Signs And Their Chinese-English Translation

The thesis intends to make an overall study on public signs and their Chinese-English translation, mainly on the latter.The writer introduces status and significance of public sign translation before generalizing them. Then the problems existing in public sign translation are discussed from linguistic and cultural aspects. Following the introduction to functionalist approaches, this thesis points out that Skopostheorie can be used as the guideline during sign translation.This thesis gives a thorough analysis to the problems and causes in the public sign translation, and gives some tentative solutions.
