This thesis mainly discusses the issue about registration of St.John's University in Shanghai, probes deeply into the reasons why St.John's University rejected and postponed its registration in modern China and the difficulties and impacts it caused. The thesis makes the comparison between the Kuomintang's attitudes in the 1920s and 1930s. Although St.John's University rejected registration, it could exist for a long time and affect the temporal society. The article introduces the origin of its registration and evolution as well as, gradually shows how St.John's University was from resplendence to downfall. Compared with Yenching University, St.John's University was passive to confront the registration and Chinese participating school's administration. The experience of St.John's University revealed the university should hold an aspiring attitude to handle the relationship with government and society, strive for the situation of mutual benefit.
