Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL) is the important aspect that cultivating foreign students' Chinese reading ability. To cultivate foreign students' reading ability is one of the key tasks for the comprehensive course of TCSL. So we must attach great importance to semantic teaching in the comprehensive course. The thesis, taking some materials from elementary, intermediate and advanced comprehensive course as examples, demonstrates that context is of great significance to the semantic comprehension of Chinese as a second language and briefly illustrates how to guide students to analyze semanteme through context.The thesis mainly consists of five chapters, including introduction and conclusion .The third And forth chapters are the core of the thesis.The first chapter Introduction, the thesis initiates the study of this topic with the following considerations: the first is the comprehension of language sign which is derived from the theory of Morris semiotics, the second is the rule of teaching Chinese as a foreign language emphasizes semantic teaching in the comprehensive course, the third is the questions put forward in the textbooks of comprehensive course. Based on the above analysis, the thesis points out the content to be solved in the research, research method and significance of the study correspondingly.The second chapter demonstrates the complexity of semantics from two aspects: one is the difficulty to comprehend the meaning of language sign, the other is the classification of semanteme Based on the literature review of context research, the thesis straightens out the developing vein of context theory, and then briefly introduces the context composition and classification from the aspect of pragmatics. Finally, makes a conclusion that semanteme is indeed conditioned by context.The third chapter mainly discusses that context is of great significance to semantic analysis, which can be proved from the truth that conversations of situation context, co-text and socio-cultural context are all of great significance to semantic analysis. In the process of the illustration, the thesis mainly focuses on the analysis of semantic questions including phases, sentences etc, which are referred in the teaching materials of Chinese comprehensive course for foreigners..The forth chapter elucidates how to enlighten and guide students to comprehend situation context, co-text and socio-cultural context and make them master the skills of analyzing semanteme through context.The fifth chapter conclusion...
