Study On Caopi's Proses

Cao Pi was the first emperor of Wei during the period of Three Empires,and also was the outstanding representative of Jian An Literature.As a politician, in the course of insufficient six years' rule, he didn't get any notable achievement in military and administration;while as a literati, he achieved quite a lot in his life. Up to now ,comments on Cao Pi's poems and Fu (descriptive prose interspersed with verse) have been in the majority ,while his proses have been much less commented. In addition to the phenomenon of "Depreciate Cao Pi while Appreciate Cao Zhi",the study on Cao Pi was hard to further thoroghly.It can be said that Cao Pi's proses are the important part of his literay creation. If we don't study his creation overall and further, just the study on his poems and Fu can not be the whole of his literature achievements.Cao Pi mainly lived in the period of Jian An and the beginning of Wei.His whole life can be divided into three parts:the period of his teens when he studied on both civil and martial arts,the period of Ye City when he was ready in every aspect and the period of his rule.Through brief introduction of the concept of Chinese Classical Prose 's definition and of its classification , I consult the characteristics of prose's style, divide Cao Pi's available proses into official documents, letters and Dian Lun, and I also separately carry on the thorough elaboration to each style.Most of his official documents were created after Cao Pi coming into rule. These applied articles had unfolded his political thinking and his complicated characteristics and also manifested the political attitude of "honor the Confucian" for the need of stablizing his political situation.Meanwhile,because of the influences of Cao Cao's official documents and the new change of the proses in that time, Cao Pi's official documents have the considerable literature esthetic value ,whose concrete manifestation is to inherit the literary style of Cao Cao' s "respect the fact" and "unconventional" as well as the further study on the aesthetic characteristics of official documents.The number of caopi's available letter is 27. These proses have quite high artistic value because the novelty of their style,content and artistic characteristics. The articles to appraise the literary arts with friends and to talk about some minor things between fellow officials are both creation to traditional letters. Cao Pi's correspondences unfolded him as a writer for the rich lyric atmosphere,and they also unfolded caopi's bright individuality.In the letters there are no restriction between ruler and people.we can see all feelings of an ordinary person in these articles.On the use of language, there are easily-understood letters as well as exquisite letters.The distinguished feature of his proses is delicate and flowery.He liked to use literary quotations and make every sentence with four or six words.DianLun is the representative of Cao Pi's classical thesis. It has in all 5 volumes . The comparatively complete ones which are available are just Zi Xu and Lun Wen,and others are lost or not complete.The analysis of Dian Lun's time and creative motive proved Cao Pi's political intention to create Dian Lun. Dian Lun's style is following the formula of the writers' from Dong Han Dynasty. It is a collection of thesis including social,political and cultural aspects. From the content it can be divided into preface,papers,current political and historical treatises and others.Each part has its own characteristics.Preface has bright individuality;Lun Wen is unconventional and has compact structure; current political and historical treatises have profound meaning;others have wide-ranged content. All these fully show that Cao Pi was learned and also show his complicated thinking.Cao Pi occupied a time of social turbulence,unsteady political situation and Confucianism declination,under which literature awareness is a major tendency. This tendency on proses is the apperance of new change.Cao Pi's proses have manifested this feature.The combination of time influence and his own creative individuality makes the high artistic achievement of Cao Pi's proses. The combination of rationality and perceptuality, style innovation,elegant language and obvious Pian style, bring the profound influence for the later generation.
