In the international communication and exchanges, the interpreters areindispensable to bridge the language barrier between the different countries. With thefast development of global economy and increasing contacts and cooperation inpolitics, science and technology, education, economy and culture, etc. the demands forqualified interpreters have reached to an unprecedented level. The businessinterpretation is a newly developed occupation and flourishing with the steps ofglobalization. The business interpreters serve mainly the business circles in variousbusiness activities, such as business visits, talks, meetings, negotiations andcooperation. Due to the complexity of the interpretation tasks and the crucial roles,especially that in negotiations, the business interpreters are much higher required.However, in present interpretation markets, not only the quantity but also the qualityof the business interpreters can not satisfy the needs of the employers. Thisoccupation still needs to be regulated. In the research area, few people ever studiedthis branch of interpretation specifically. The results or conclusions of businessinterpretation studies are mainly the byproducts of the studies of consecutive orsimultaneous interpretations.This dissertation will give an introduction to the business interpretation fromfour aspects: the brief history of professional interpretation, definition and features ofbusiness interpretation, the requirements on professional business interpreters,interpreting skills and the criteria for quality assessment of business interpretation.This thesis provides an overall view of professional business interpretation, and willbe helpful both in the interpretation practice and the theoretical research.
