On The Reform Of Piano Teaching For Higher Normal Education-elementary Education(Music Major)

In July 2001 the Ministry of Education put forth Standard of Musical Education in Full-time Compulsory Education, making musical education a compulsory course in primary school. Elementary Education of Higher Normal Education (musical major) is a major to train musical teachers for primary school and piano teaching is a specialized course. However, for quite a long period this course basically adopts the same model as that of professional musical college, which is not completely appropriate for students majoring in Higher Normal Education. Therefore it is necessary for us to seek a new way that is more ideal for Higher Normal Education.This paper begins with the educational objective, standard and occupation of Elementary Education of Higher Normal Education (musical major). Considering the features of this major, it elaborates a series of reforms and tentative plan for the piano course of Higher Normal Education from three aspects: teaching style, teaching materials and evaluation pattern.Firstly, this paper analyses the three teaching forms---collective class, group class and individual class on the basis of features of the students majoring in music, suggesting collective piano class for the first term, group class for the second and third term (for the third term different group division is necessary) and individual class for the fourth term.In terms of evaluation pattern, I suggest more emphasis should be given to the role of"process-orientation"and the role of"target-orientation"should be decreased to some degree. I suggest the ratio of process-orientation to target-orientation at 7:3.The teaching materials will mainly center around the course of"practical piano performance in primary school". Songs will be selected from common teaching materials and be put into new order. Suggestions will also be put forward for the application of new materials.Lastly I will put forward the suggestion of creating a piano database with the application of computer technology and digital piano classroom.The national tentative application of the new Standard marks a new epoch for the musical teaching in China. This reform of basic education will directly influence music education in Higher Normal College in terms of school-running ideology, educational objective, course pattern, teaching content and so on. Piano class is a basic course and is an essential skill for higher normal students as it can improve their own competence and artistic culture. In order to equip the students with competence and artistic culture, it is high time to ameliorate the piano teaching in higher normal education for the improvement of piano teaching skill and artistic competence will exert direct influence on the integrate musical teaching in higher normal education.
