The rural land tenure system changed tremendously during the British social transition period from 15 to 17 century.Copyholders were in the sixteenth century much the most numerous of tenants on the great estates, Copyholders took their name from the copy of the manor court roll which established that they held their land by "the custom of the manor": the term of the copyholder or customary tenant can be used interchange, ably.This article is to discuss the rise and fall of copyhold of England from the15th to17th century. As money became more plentiful, a money rent appeared, gradually replacing the feudal services. Money economy prevailed gradually. The outbreak of the Black Death gave a big blow on British population development. About 44% of English population was killed in 1348-49. And because of the frequently recrudesce of epidemic, there was a protracted decline of population development. Because of the development of money economy and the reducing of population, the Villeinage was fall and the Copyhold was rise.With the prosperity of money economy and the increasing of population in 16th century, non-agricultural industries became popular.
