With the rising of screen media, the theme of films gradually penetrates into every field of society and legal phenomenon and legal questions have been given extensive attention in the screen field. However, much research and review of legal phenomenon concerning screen put emphasis on the concrete legal questions. The research has been carried out in order to establish the standard and practise it and their major function is to popularize the law. But not enough research has been done in the cultural phenomenon in law.The paper consists of three parts.1.Focus on the combination of law and films. The former is the symbol of rigidness and rational mind while the latter is colorful and romantic.2.In the paper, we choose some important Chinese and American films, which can stand for the differences of the culture in law between China and America. The study of films is carried on from the following three aspects, individual and group, power and right and the perceptual and the rational. These films are compared from the Chinese and Western angles and demonstrate how they enter legal logos, legal perception tropism, legal emotion tropism and evaluation tropism into the creation of film by means of some film plots concerning law. Therefore, this thesis shows the internal relations between law and their respective cultural traditions and digs the root of the ideological form, value system and life style behind the law.3.Based on the analysis of the cultural differences in law, try to display the present situation of Chinese law in order to find out the reasons of its social problems. In all, the research of law and films can improve our ability and methods of observing things and offer us an unique perspective in the study of social culture and historical change.
