On Realization Of The Trasnlator's Purpose From The Reader's Perspective

Translation which refers to a complex relationship among texts,translators and readers is a kind of activities with the translators' purposes.The translation studies also include culture, language and so on. One ofthe important factors is the reader of the version who is often ignored bypeople. Ignorance of the reader will have a negative influence on therealization of the translator's purpose as well as the value of the version.Hans Robert Jauss declares: "reader, listener, and spectator-in short,the factor of the audience-play an extremely limited role in literarytheories. In the triangle of author, work and public (readers) the last is nota passive part, no chain of mere reactions, but rather itself an energyformative of history."~2 Enlightened by the reception theory, people havechanged the perspective of translation studies. They begin to consider andanalyze version from the reader's perspective. The translator always takesup translation with his/her own purpose such as spreading foreign culture,introducing new ideas or even just making a living, and so on. In order torealize his/her purpose, the most important thing is that he/she must letthe reader accept his/her versions first. So it is unavoidable that thetranslator should adjust version and translating strategies from thereader's perspective. In this thesis, the author compares the two versions of My Countryand My People under the guidance of the reception theory. Through thecomparison between them, the author wants to express that in order torealize translating purpose, the translator should translate from thereader's perspective and the author also tries to analyze what factorsshould be considered and what the relative strategies should be adoptedfrom the reader's viewpoint. Finally, the author makes a conclusion that,under the guidance of reception theory, the translator can consider therelative translating factors more comprehensive and adjust theirtranslating strategies from the reader's perspective. These activities canpromote the realization of the translators' translating purposes.The author tries to discuss the realization of the translator's purposefrom the reader's perspective and analyzes the relative factors andstrategies in the process of translating. The author hopes that this thesiscould enlighten the translator to pay more attention to the reader andconsider the version from the reader's perspective.
