The Phonological Study On Dongkou Dialects In Hunan Province

Gan dialect occupies a very important status in studying in Chinese,but the research of Gan dialect is still relatively weak and a large amountof dialect areas wait to be studied. Dongkou county which lies in thesouthwest of Hunan province has not received the attention of theacademia all the time and lacked the systematic research materials.Considering that and on the basis of investigating in the locality, wemainly describe the phonetic system of Dongkou town dialect——thecounty town of Dongkou, which is a representative of Dongkou Gandialect. In addition, comparisons will be made among the Dongkoudialect and the relevant xiang,gan dialect that try to present thephonological appearance of Dongkou Gan dialect from the respect ofdialect contact,it also will provide the facts of language contact.The full thesis falls into seven parts altogether.The Introduction Part shows us the geography, the history, thepopulation, the condition of language uses of Dongkou county briefly. Italso introduces the present studies on the Dongkou dialect and theemphasis and the main purpose of our research.The first chapter makes an account of the phonetic system, thefeatures of initial consonant, compound vowel and tone of Dongkou Gandialect.The second chapter describes and analyses the phonological characteristics of Dongkou Gan dialect.The third chapter is the syllabary of Dongkouzhen dialect.The fourth chapter describes and analyses literary reading andcolloquial reading and the layers of literal, reading and colloquialreading on some characters.The fifth chapter makes comparisons among Dongkouzhen dialectand the relevant dialect to show the phonological appearance of DongkouGan dialect and tries to know more phonological characteristics ofDongkou Gan dialect,which is surrounded by Xiang dialect.The rest ofthe essay analyses the materials above synthetically andpredicts that Dongkou county dialect keeps the essential characteristics ofGan dialect,at the same time it is affected by Xiang dialect to a certainextent.
