In the thesis, we look common words of Tang Yu Lin: A New Account of Tales in Tang Dynasty as the object. Tang Yu Lin is a novel collection selected from fifty books by WangDang, which has many valuable historical and language material. To be concrete, we make the selection that we are going to do research of the disyllabic words because it belongs to not only grammar category but semantics category as well. The study of the disyllabic words is one of the important subjects in the research of Chinese vocabulary. The monograph study of the disyllabic words is a good demonstration in a history term. We regard the disyllabic words of Tang Yu Lin as a relative seal system to carry on processing, and list all the disyllabic words including the disyllabic oral words, with the aid of the reference books and the dictionaries, to illustrate some words and analyze their meanings.The thesis consists of six parts as follows:Chapter one is an introductory about the subject and Tang Yu Lin. Chapter two is criteria to choose the disyllabic words. There is no general criteria in the academic circle to assertain the combination. We try to consult the senior person's views and the present study, then set up six criterions of distinguishing the disyllabic words in this thesis. Chapter three analyzes the vocabulary in Tang Yu Lin one by one, getting rid of the single-syllabic words and phrases, searching out all in this book and calculating the sum. And then we classify all the disyllabic words into eight kinds, study the construction characters of each kind of the disyllabic words thoroughly. Chapter four retrieves information from the historical texts to know the history of the word by the use of Chinese dictionary and some other books. Chapter five discusses the disyllabic oral words. The historical era from Tang to Wudai Dynasty is of significant importance to the history of the evolution of colloquial words. We analyze the usages and meanings of these oral words. Chapter six is the conclusion.
