An Experimental Study On Mr.Sun Yirang's Idea Of Developing The Country Through Education

Sun Yirang is a master of scripture in late Qing Dynasty. He had a broad research field and wrote several dozen kinds of books. Confronted with the tremendous and disastrous change of Qing Dynasty, his thoughts also went through great change. As a patriotic intellectual, he began to worry about his country and his patriots and advocated the reform. He gave great sympathy to the democratic revolution and read many advanced books and was devoted to the education and the development of the country. From 1985 on, he began to be devoted to the education and the development of the country through the industry. He built more than 300 schools of different level and various kinds of social organizations in 16 counties in Wen and Chu. In 1905, he began to work as the administrator of Wen and Chu educational branch, and in 1907 he was elected as the vice president of Zhejiang Association of Education.The paper introduced from two aspects Sun Yirang's running school experiences in his late years. The introduction began from his running various kinds of schools. He ran various kinds of schools in the beginning to meet the requirements of the times, and then he went through the vocational education, social education and local education. The thesis praised his role of pioneering in South Zhejiang. He was also main force of the new education, and brought the rapid development of new education in South Zhejiang. Then the introduction moved to the methods and measures he raised the educational fees. His thoughts and the ideas of running school were also analyzed. He advocated universal education and the renewal of educational thoughts, educational contents and educational methods. His idea that everybody should be responsible for the rise and fall of the country was fully approved of.Besides these two aspects of contents, the thesis still tried to analyze the role of the diffluence and the transmission of political culture in specific political background in the development of the local education. The thesis also pointed that Chinese traditional education is a kind of political education which is the nature of Chinese traditional education.
