The object of study of the thesis is about the idioms included in the Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese (2005editon) and the Dictionary of Contemporary Standard Chinese. With both theoretical research and material analysis of this area, I made a comparative study on the morphology and explanation of the idioms included in the two dictionaries, using methods of statistics and investigation of the word frequency. With the hope of benefiting the idiom research and standardization of dictionary, discrepancy expressions are analyzed no matter they are thought good or bad.The thesis are composed of six parts.In part one, I generally stated the status in quo and the significance of the idiom study and briefly introduced the main idea of the thesis and the materials mentioned in my study.In part two, the idiom and the scope of my research were defined. With the reference of some former achievements of this area, some high-quality-compiled idiom dictionaries and knowledge of idiom, I eventually clarified the idiom entry in the two dictionaries.In part three, I did comparative analysis of the idiom entry in the two dictionaries, including comparing the principle of idiom entry and establishing a specific idiom. In part four, I compared the morphology of the idioms in the two dictionaries. The entry and treatment of the idioms are mainly investigated which have the same meaning and pronunciation but different characters.In part five, the explanation of idioms in the two dictionaries was comparatively analyzed in three aspects: explanation of the idiom, origin of the explanation and the hue color of the idiom.Part six is the conclusion. A conclusion of the whole thesis is made in this part.
