Every language has its color words and each nation has its own color word system. Different nations have different understanding and expression even for a single color word. The comparative studies of the color words between the Chinese and the Uygur language will help to probe into their universality and their respective national characteristics. The research in the area will help promote the cultural exchange of the two nations, improve the unbalanced distribution of color word research in our country, and thus the research is of great theoretical and practical significance to the teaching of the color words.Based on the large number of color words gathered, the paper intends to make a comparative study of color words between the Chinese and the Uygur language focusing mainly on the five color words: black, white, red, blue and green from three aspects: word-building, semantics and cultural intension.The paper falls into five chapters:Chapter One:By summarizing the achievements of the predecessors in this research area, the chapter expounds the purpose and research methods applied in the paper.Chapter Two: Comparative studies of the color words from word-building.By comparing the word building of the color words between the two languages, this chapter generalizes their differences in this respect.Chapter Three: Analysis of semantic correspondence of color words between the two languages.This chapter mainly analyzes the color words of the two languages from such semantic settings as corresponding, the basic corresponding; un-corresponding and vacancy.Chapter Four: Cultural intension of two languages.Based on analysis of a lot of color words between the two languages, this chapter expounds the differences in value system between Han and Uygur nationalities. It tries to demonstrate that the semantic category is influenced by the value system of different languages, while value system is affected by historical backgrounds, geographical environments, religious belief, local conditions and customs and the cultural exchange between different nationalities. These factors are mutually influenced, and interrelated.Chapter Five: The conclusion of the thesis.
