Chinese idiom in the oral communication is a common language phenomenon, but because of its special nature, it is hard for foreign learners to learn and understand . Sometimes ,there are also some titles associated with idiom in HSK. Therefore, idiom teaching in middle - and high-level Chinese teaching is important and necessary. And Chinese textbooks also play an important role in the link. Based on this, this thesis is intended to make an all-round investigation and thinking about idiom in middle - and high-level Chinese textbooks, with a view to give suggestion about selection, layout, explanation and exercise of idiom for future textbooks.In the aspect of selection, these idioms which are vibrant ,commonly used in spoken Chinese , have positive direction should be used in textbooks . Through 40 middle - and high-level Chinese textbooks and a titles book of HSK (high level) , we selected 161 idioms. Then in modern Chinese corpus of CCL for the statistical frequency, 66 former idioms are elected as the material that should be selected .In the aspect of layout , idiom is helpful to enhance teaching more relevant, interesting and reflect the teaching communicative purpose. Therefore, textbooks must attach importance to the introduction of idioms. This paper summarizes the existing textbooks used for the presentation, and then give ideas and suggestions : we must give sufficient attention to the presentation of idioms and pay attention to summing up, pay attention to the system and reappearance; Because many idioms and cultural factors are closely related, it is better for the two to complement and promote each other .In the aspect of explanation, firstly , this thesis summarizes the for types of explanation in existing materials, and then presents ideas and suggestions : the explanation should contain three dimensions- forms, semantics and pragmatics, and if the conditions permitting, pictures should be used as aids to help learners understand and remember.In the aspect of exercise, it is important and necessary for textbooks , teaching and learners .The layout of idiom practice should follow four principles .About the basic forms , the thesis gives suggestions from three aspects --mechanical exercises ,comprehension exercises and communicative exercises.
