The Phonological Study Of The Southern Dialect In Anxiang County

At the end of the Qing dynasty, many people who lived in the partsof Xiang dialect immigrated to the south part of Anxiang County, whichforms the "Southern dialect". However, there has been few documents onthe study of the dialect of "Southern dialect". Considering that and on thebasis of investigating in the locality, we many describe the phoneticsystem of Yongde dialect, which is a representative dialect of "Southerndialect", and divide "Southern dialect" into several districts. In addition, acomparison will be made among "Southern dialect", Changsha dialect,Yiyang dialect and Anxiang dialect, trying to make a conclusion to thedialect system in "Southern dialect" that fills the gap of Xiang dialect.The full thesis falls into five parts altogether.The Introduction Part shows us the geography, the history, thepopulation, the condition of language uses of Anxiang County briefly. Italso introduces the present studies on the "Southern dialect" and theemphasis and the main purpose of our research.The first chapter describes an account of the phonetic system, thefeatures of initial consonant, compound vowel and tone of "Southerndialect". In addition, it cleans up the syllabary of Yongde dialect.The second chapter describes and analyses literary reading andcolloquial reading of "Southern dialect".The third chapter uses the comparative method to sketch thecontours of the inside difference of "Southern dialect" roughly. According to it, "Southern dialect" is divided into several districts. In addition, wesum up the phonetic features of these districts.The fourth chapter uses the comparative and analytical methods tounveiling the differences and connections between every part of"Southern dialect" and Changsha dialect, Yiyang dialect and Anxiangdialect. Then uses the statistical method to analyse the close or alienaterelationship between them. At last the walter gives her own opinion on thedialect system and its transition.
