This thesis mainly discusses the absorption of neologism in the teaching material of intensive reading. In the thesis, we have chosen six types of typical teaching material of intensive reading to observe and study their present situations about the absorption of neologism. Meanwhile, we give some relative suggestions by referring to the results of research and statistics of The Report of Present Situations in Chinese Language in 2005 and the existing research achievements at the moment. The thesis mainly adopts the methods such as statistics, description, comparison, explanation and so on.According to the research, we have found these features of the absorption of neologism:1. Total quantity is small, the quantity proportion of the middle stage is higher than the elementary stage and the senior stage;2. Social life terms are dominant;3. Neologism is comparatively useful.Referring to present existing research achievements, we suggest:1. The teaching material of intensive reading should absorb more neologism by the adaptability of the words that do not belong to The Rank Program of Chinese Level Vocabulary and Character;2. The semantic type should mainly absorb the terms of social life, economy and commerce, current affairs, culture, science and technology;3. The absorption of the etymological type should combine the principles of frequency, practicability, standardization.
