Xinjiang is a multi-ethnic and multi-language region. There is an excellent tradition of learning languages among different ethnic groups. From the middle of the 20 th Century to the present, there are many universities and colleges which have started the subject of Uyghur language in order to foster a large number of professionals proficient in the Uyghur language. However, in the last five decades, universities in Xinjiang and universities in some inland cities that teach the Uyghur language use different materials.One of the language materials used by a large amount of people who are learning Uyghur is edited by Professor Xiaohua Fang. His series of Uyghur textbooks, which includes all levels of Uyghur language, can meet differing individual needs, such as Elementary and Intermediate Uyghur Language Tutorial, Intermediate Uyghur Speaking and Reading Tutorial, Uyghur Audio and Visual Tutorial, Uyghur Language Newspaper Reading Course,the Modern Uyghur Language and Translation, the Culture of Uyghur, and the Selected of Uyghur Literary(15 kinds of materials). These textbooks I have mentioned have been taught in the Xinjiang Normal University, Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics,Xinjiang Agricultural University, Kashi University and other colleges. However, there is no scientific or systematic investigation or analysis on the usage of these teaching materials.Based on this position, this essay attempts to use the theory of task-based teaching and the second language learning theory, which was gathered through questionnaires and interviews with teachers and students at three colleges regarding the teaching of the Uyghur Language. My purpose is to investigate how many student use Prof. Fang’s textbooks and to provide suggestions for future editing of Uyghur language textbooks. This paper is divided into six parts.The first part describes the Uyghur background and significance of the research.The second part is a literature review, which describes the relevant theories and research about the teaching materials, including the function of teaching materials,evaluation and preparation of the principles, the development of the Uyghur language teaching materials, and the evaluation method of teaching the Uyghur language.The third part is the analysis of Uyghur language textbook, such as vocabulary,grammar, dialogue, culture, and supplementary materials.The fourth part is a comprehensive and detailed investigation of the textbooks used.The survey was conducted among students and teachers who used the teaching materials.The results will be analyzed and explained in detail.The fifth part is a summary of the pros and cons of the teaching materialThe sixth part gives textbook suggestions for students and tutors.
