A Study On Locative Phrases In Chinese Of Mediaeval Times

This paper investigates mediaeval literature "SIN SHUO XIN YU ", "LUOYANG QIELAN JI","SOU SHEN JI","QI MIN YAO SHU"(picks and gets rid of ZA SHUO and quote parts),aims to give a clear and full description of locative phrases about NP+上,NP+下and NP+中in the literature,reflects locatives and locative phrases usage of mostly feature in Chinese of Mediaeval Times.The paper uses three types of methods,which are the combination of ongoing description and the lasted inspection,the combination of description and explanation and the combination of data statistics and qualitative analysis.The comparison includes the secondary category of NP,locative semantic and the sentence construction position of locative phrases.Comparisons with LUN YU,MENG ZI,ZUO ZHAUN and SIN JI(SHI JIA)reveal that NP scope extend continuously in the period of antiquity times and mediaeval times;The range of secondary categories of NP is larger;The change of semantic about locatives also along with the change of the secondary categories;The semantic of locatives change a lot with the change of NP.The sentence construction position of locative phrases also change enough,from absolute postposition in antiquity times to front position in medieval times;The transformation of second category and the change of the sentence construction function caused the grammaticalization of locative.These phenomenon is telling about Chinese of medieval times is being an important stage of the development about Chinese locatives and locative phrases.There are six parts in this paper.Part one is a foreword,about the nature of locatives,last research,theories research and the narration of survey on locative phrases in Chinese of Mediaeval Times which explain the meaning, object and method of this paper.Part two,three and four we about the careful description and the discussion of using three different types of locative phrases of NP+上,NP+下and NP+中in Chinese of Medieval Times,investigating the secondary category of NP,locative semantic and the changes of the sentence construction position of locative phrases from antiquity times to medieval times,and discussing the grammaticalization of上,下and中in the foundation.Part five is the discussion about related problems of locatives and locative phrases,including some other locative phrases,the combination之,以with locative and the Mechanism of locative grammaticalization.Part six is for the conclusion,which outlines the overall feature about locative phrase in Chinese of Medieval Times, demonstrates the comparison result simply and concludes theoretical discussion of this paper.
