On The Shanghai Literature And Arts Association

The Shanghai Literature and Arts Association, a united front organization with distinct epochal features, was founded after the full-scale Anti-Japanese War broke out. It led and organized people of literary and art circles in Shanghai to actively join the National Salvation Movement and the war of resistance against Japan, and made great contribution to the movement.Without the special background of Anti-Japanese War, the association couldn't have come into being. Its foundation embodied the literary and art workers'wish to actively resist the Japanese invaders. The first chapter of this paper conveys the historical background and the specific process of its foundation, introduces the main members and the structure of the association, and reveals the necessity of its foundation.The activities of national salvation that organized by the Shanghai Literature and Arts Association reflected its contribution to the Anti-Japanese War in Shanghai. The second chapter of this paper observes the activities of editing and publishing, conveying greetings in frontline, salvation training, radio broadcasting and drama performing, and provides the objective basis for exploring its historical function and influence.Finally, on the basis of observing the historical origin, the background of foundation and the process of development of the Shanghai Literature and Arts Association, probing into the salvation and resistance activities the association organized and participated in, the last chapter deeply analyzes its function and influence on the Anti-Japanese War in Shanghai, aiming at providing historical reference to the cultural construction cause of the present age.
