Liberation is a powerful word. It is the slogan of oppressed human groups of all sorts. It has been extended to animals by their human defenders. Ecological crisis has been a big problem since 1960s.With the intensifing of it ,more and more people show great interests in the relationship between the natural ecosystem and human beings. John B.Cobb,Jr, the initiator of process theology, explores the roots of ecological crisis from the theological point of view.In Cobb's view, the root of ecological crisis is anthropocentrism. In order to solve this crisis, traditional Christianity must be creatively transformed. Cobb emphasizes the imminence of God, despises its transcendence. He emphasizes the personality of God, God relies on persuades to work, not on its lawful power. God has an intimate relationship with human beings and nature. God lies in all the living things.Cobb believes that it is the conceptual environment of human being that can decide our future. He uses an ecological model to resist the mechanical model. Cobb thinks liberation has both an outer and an inner meaning. Outwardly it is the call to throw off the economic, political and ideological yoke of the oppressor. Inwardly it is the call to be freed from the internalization of the oppressive ideology. Human beings is not a superior lord over nature. Only be friendly to nature, can human beings live a better life. Thus , Cobb shows a much further view. He wants to find out a just, sustainable eco-community. Only with a ecological thinking, Can ecological crisis be solved.
