| William Shakespeare is one of the most accomplished writers in the European Renaissance period, and he is also the most greatest and far-reaching impact writers in British literature history. This poet, dramatist with the Ancient Greek tragedy writer Aeschylus is respected as"The two greatest Genius in any era"by Karl Marx. For 400 years time, William Shakespeare and his dramas are worldwide famous. However, his sonnet is the"key"which let him open the door of the British literature temple in European Renaissance period.Shakespeare's poetry including two important narrative poems. Venus and Adonis, The Rape of Lucerne,and a set of Sonnet Anthology.When the trying work Venus and Adonis firstly came out in 1593,according to the custom of that time ,in the name of dedicating to a famous person, Shakespeare claimed in the preamble that the poem was"The first work of his".After the first publishment, it was consecutive printed for 15 times in the following half century. And less than a year later, The Rape of Lucerne came out in 1594.The elegant language, the musical rhythm, the delicate description and the rich imagination were greatly welcomed. It was not faded its color until 1650 because the transfer of the culture interest.It is not a easy stuff that Shakespeare with his"first work", could take one place (even covers every century) in the poetry temple in the Renaissance period of Britain. The spectacular sentence of the"first line"is the silence endorsement to the early predicament of his, the guardianship to the art of the poem, the fascination to the nature, the worship to the shining wisdom and the expectation to the blister's we could say, the two inclusive sonnets should be the treasure of the scholars who devotee in studying Shakespeare.In Shakespeare's time, Elizabeth prevailed the concept of culture, that made the flourish of poetry followed by the blossom of drama and also got great development in Renaissance time. The first man who mentioned the sonnet of Shakespeare is probably poet Henry Willbi. He talked about the plot that Shakespeare described the miserable Rape of Lucerne in his preamble. The critics of the same time such as William Harvey and William Covelo highly evaluated Shakespeare, and saw him as"the poet who pays a tribute to the virtue of Lucrece". However, they just commented the inclusiveness of the content, the language style and the expression technique. They acclaimed the creativeness and the imagination of the poet, but still not"divided the deep structure of Shakespeare's art."Times of Reason started in the later half of the 17th century, and it was also the outset time of critics to Shakespeare's work. The glory of his poem works in the drama covered his other works'lights, charming and attractive to the scholars. However, the critics of this period had their own important historical meaning. As the outset of the real critics, abstract discussion had already greatly declined. The Shakespeare Art had been set in the vessels of the Classicalism and undertaken the coming test. The common critic standards and Aesthetics principles spurs people's interests thus they turned to the study of the specific problems.In the 18th century, although the wave of the Enlightment suppressed the Classicism, and became the New favorite of the time. Sooner Sentimentalism came to the literature stage, the mist like grief which the sentimental poems conveyed, should have lead people come to the Shakespeare's spectacular poetry world from a new aspect. But the critic emphases of Shakespeare's work didn't focus on his narrative poems as we expected, the representative Johnson paid more attention to the characters in Shakespeare's drama work.The critic in the 19th century of Shakespeare's work is the last passport which leads us into the art world of Shakespeare. As the worshiper of Shakespeare, the critics of the romantic group welcomed Shakespeare firstly. No matter in England or in European continent, people were no longer talked about the meaning of Shakespeare's work isolate, but saw it as the reflection of social life in certain time and studied the intrinsic law of the works.The study of Shakespeare in the 20th century showed many special theoretic views which have already penetrated in the modern Shakespeare study. The critics of the 20th century were not satisfied with the reliquary of the 19th century and they experimented their theories in Shakespeare's work in succession. Among the study trends of 20th century, the most attractive one would be Feminism. Now it reviewed the literature history, literature context and drama from Feminism view and the feminine view. It absorbed certain results from the anthropology, the psychology, the structuralism, the deco structuralism and the semeiology, forming new drama aesthetics.In China, among the Shakespeare studies, focus on the two long narrative poems are the most insufficient. According to the statistics, from 1979 to 2007in China, the paper subject on the two narrative poems, other comments of the two narrative poems scattered in other monographs are only 17.There are other 3 critic papers published in the transactions and open newspaper before1983.According to the review in section two, as Li Weimin pointed out that the study in Venus and Adonis after 1980s, paid more attention to the description of love affairs and the meditation to the nature of human being. Some scholars introduced the relegation view, from the"characters, ontent and the metathesis of the theme"etc. which created some new results. The study of The Rape of Lucrece focus on the realistic principle it showed. Presently, the study of the relative materials to the two narrative poems are insufficient. A lot of views are just the superficial meaning which brought from the foreign scholars, and the approaching method follows the tradition before 1989, lack of the creation and innovation to some extent."The fate of the two narrative poems"brought out all kinds of the questions to the context. In 1690s, People became interested in the narrative poems and this became prevalence, but the sonnet just went around in some small circles. In the later two centuries, the narrative poems nearly faded its color, nobody cared about it, but sonnet came into people's life. In the 20th century, the Shakespeare's sonnet almost prevalent in the whole world. This paper choose materials from the scattered references, take the relative materials to the two narrative poems comments, select materials ,make textural research, arrange them and make confluence. Further more, explore the reason why the two narrative poems flourished a time and the reason of the absent treatment in 17th and 18th century. Trying to analyze the characters of the"19th century and the 20th century long poem study of Shakespeare". This paper arrange the study papers in the 21st century in China, thus offer a new study status. Anyhow, I hope this paper could offer a relatively new and clear review to the learners who take interested in the narrative poems study of Shakespeare.
