With the emphasis on mental health, there are more and more studies on affecting factors of mental health at home and abroad. Among them there is no lack of studies on locus of control and coping styles, but the studies on their relation are poor. It has great theoretical and practical significance to research on senior high school students in locus of control and coping styles. It can not only understand their characteristics and differences of locus of control and coping styles, but also get the inspired about mental health education target them in order to improve the quality of life, to raise their level of physical and mental health.This study reviews the characteristics and relations of locus of control and coping styles between them who are from different gender, different disciplines, different areas and different schools by means of questionnaire, which take 540 senior high school students as subjects who come from ChengDu area and ZiYang area. The results conclude that:1. The locus of control of most students is internality.There are significant gender differences between the internality factor and the powerful others factor. The locus of control of boys than it of girls trend to the internality and the powerful others. There are significant disciplinary differences between the internality factor and the chance factor. The locus of control of science students trend to the internality and the chance than it of arts students.There are significant urban and rural differences on the internality factor. The locus of control of rural students trend to the internality than it of urban students. There are significant school differences on the internality factor. The locus of control of key school students than non-key school students tend to the internality.2. High school students mainly taken to the coping style of problem-solving, illusion, support-seeking ting and escape.There are significant gender differences between the support-seeking factor and the rationalization factor. More girls than boys use the support-seeking and more boys than girls use the rationalization.There are significant disciplinary differences between the support-seeking factor and the rationalization factor. More arts students than science students use the support-seeking and more science students than arts students use the rationalization.There are significant urban and rural differences on the support-seeking. More urban students use the support-seeking. There are significant school differences on the support-seeking. More non-key school students use the support-seeking.3. Locus of control factors and coping style factors are significantly related. Internality positively correlate with problem-solving, but negatively correlate with blame-self, rationalization,illusion and escape. Externality (powerful others and chance) positively correlate with blame-self, illusion, escape and rationalization, but negatively correlate with problem-solving and support-seeking (powerful others do significantly not correlate with support-seeking).By using stepwise multiple regression analysis which take the gender, discipline, area, school and locus of control as independent variables, and take the coping style as dependent variables, I find that the locus of control, especially chance, can predict the coping style significantly. The more internality controls the more people use positive coping style, the more externality controls the more people use negative coping style.This study will help us more thoroughly and more profoundly understanding the characteristics of the locus of control and the coping styles of high school students, help us understanding deeply the relationship between the locus of control and the coping styles. So in the education process, we can guide students attribute correctly and cope effectively with their characteristics, and promote the development of their mental health.
